Anan Abu-Taleb (Born 1959) is a Palestinian-American restaurateur and politician who served as the mayor of Oak Park, Illinois between 2013 and 2021.[1] Abu-Taleb ran for village president in 2013, winning the election against John Hedges and succeeding outgoing village president David Pope.[2][3] He did not run for a third term in 2021 to focus on his restaurant business.[1]
Early Life, Education & Career
Abu-Taleb was born in Gaza, Palestine in 1959, and he moved to the United States at the age of 18 to attend university.[4] He graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a BS in Biology, and also attended the University of Chicago where he received an MBA.[5]
He then entered the restaurant business, and opened 2 restaurants in Oak Park.[4]
