The autobiography of late Newcastle United goalkeeper Pavel Srnicek is now a finalist for a literary award.

‘Pavel is a Geordie’ tells the story of the Czech footballer who was adopted into the hearts of Toon Army faithful with his appearances at St James’ Park as part of Kevin Keegan’s ‘Entertainers’ team.

After being shortlisted earlier this year, it has made it to the final of the People’s Book Award, non-fiction section, after votes poured in from members of the public.

Co-author Will Scott said the book was a “fitting legacy for Pav”, and spoke of how promoting the book had been an emotional time for all involved coming so soon after his death in December, aged 47.

The Newcastle legend was on Tyneside with the team just days before he suffered a cardiac arrest while running, launching the book which has gone on to become a best-seller.
